LOCAL NOTES

Installing solar in Tower Ranch

Tower Ranch spreads up the hillside north-east of Rutland around its golf course, with views across the valley to the lake. Homes are mostly newer, larger and built to design guidelines, many with concrete tile roofs. Tile changes the installation more than anything else here: panels go on tile hooks or flashed replacement tiles, not the standard shingle mounts.

Big homes on the hill often have big loads too: air conditioning all summer, a pool or hot tub, and more and more often an EV in the garage. We start from a full year of FortisBC bills, because the summer cooling load lines up neatly with peak solar output. Steep driveways also shape the install day, so access is planned on the first visit.

Call 250-250-2525 with a rough idea of your monthly bill. For most Tower Ranch homes that is enough to tell whether a visit is worth your time.

UTILITY

Your utility in Tower Ranch: FortisBC

Tower Ranch is in FortisBC’s service area, like the rest of the City of Kelowna. That means no BC Hydro rebate, but you keep FortisBC net metering: surplus is banked as kWh and used later in the year, with any leftover settled once a year. Check the name at the top of your bill to be sure.

INSTALL NOTES

Tower Ranch: what shapes the job

Homes in Tower Ranch tend to be larger, newer and on sloping lots. Tile roofs, design committees, steep driveways and trees are the four things that shape a hillside installation, and we deal with all four before quoting a firm price.

  1. N1

Concrete tile: proper tile hooks or flashed replacement tiles, and we carry spares, because a few always crack.

  2. N2

Design guidelines usually ask for flush, all-black arrays; we submit the drawing for approval first.

  3. N3

Steep lots: material is staged at the street and lifted, never dragged across landscaping.

PRICE

Installation prices for Tower Ranch homes

Tile roofs and steep access sit at the upper end of the price range. Larger homes also spread the fixed costs over more panels, which brings the price per watt down.

Installed price ranges, not quotes, as of October 2026. Each size assumes a home using about as much as the system makes (1,200 kWh per kW a year). FortisBC value at about 15.5¢/kWh; BC Hydro shown for comparison (rebate, 40% self-use, 10¢ exports). Paybacks use the mid price and a 3% yearly rate rise.
