LOCAL NOTES

Installing solar in The Ponds

The Ponds is one of the newer family neighbourhoods in the Upper Mission, built around a chain of storm ponds and walking paths. The homes are recent, many with suites, and the streets run in several directions across the slope. That gives a wide spread of roof orientations from one block to the next.

Families here often have the most predictable reason to go solar: a steady year-round load that grows as the kids get older and an EV arrives. We size to the bill you have today and show what adding an EV would do, so you can decide whether to leave room on the roof or the inverter for a later expansion.

Call 250-250-2525 with a rough idea of your monthly bill. For most The Ponds homes that is enough to tell whether a visit is worth your time.

UTILITY

Your utility in The Ponds: FortisBC

The Ponds is in FortisBC’s service area, like the rest of the City of Kelowna. That means no BC Hydro rebate, but you keep FortisBC net metering: surplus is banked as kWh and used later in the year, with any leftover settled once a year. Check the name at the top of your bill to be sure.

INSTALL NOTES

The Ponds: what shapes the job

Homes in The Ponds tend to be larger, newer and on sloping lots. Tile roofs, design committees, steep driveways and trees are the four things that shape a hillside installation, and we deal with all four before quoting a firm price.

  1. N1

Expansion-ready: we can size the inverter or leave rail space so more panels can be added later.

  2. N2

Mixed orientations: a south and a west plane together give a longer production day.

  3. N3

Suite on its own meter? We size to the account the array connects to.

PRICE

Installation prices for The Ponds homes

Tile roofs and steep access sit at the upper end of the price range. Larger homes also spread the fixed costs over more panels, which brings the price per watt down.

Installed price ranges, not quotes, as of October 2026. Each size assumes a home using about as much as the system makes (1,200 kWh per kW a year). FortisBC value at about 15.5¢/kWh; BC Hydro shown for comparison (rebate, 40% self-use, 10¢ exports). Paybacks use the mid price and a 3% yearly rate rise.
